A taxi driver for a ride-hailing platform in Shenzhen has recorded and reported a "rude" foreign passenger who insulted and shouted at him because he asked for the confirmation of the last four digits of his phone number when he had already spelt them. The video of the interraction which took place and was shared online on October 26th has been making rounds on all social media platforms in China, sparking discussions among netizens. It's reported that the ride-hailing driver picked up the foreign passenger who spelt out the last 4 digits of his phone number in Mandarin. The driver also spelt the numbers and asked him if it was correct, the passenger became agitated and replied with "I am not going to repeat myself" in English.
When the confused driver tried to spell the numbers again, the passenger interrupted him and said in English again "I am not going to repeat myself, I am not going to repeat myself."The driver then picked up a phone and appeared to show the passenger something on the screen when the passenger told him in English "If you are f***ing deaf, if you have no ears, I am not going to repeat myself."The driver kept showing the passenger something on the phone and said "Zhege" when the passenger moved his face toward the driver, and with his eyes wide open, shouted "6**9" in Mandarin, spelling the last four digits of his phone number. He kept shouting "You f***ing idiot, use your f***ing ears, go. 6**9, go, I said it twice."The majority of comments posted by netizens were lighthearted though."I picked up two foreigners once, they can't speak Chinese and I can't speak English so we didn't speak for the whole journey. When they reached the destination they said 'Xiexie' and I replied with 'Thank you!'", commented one netizen who received more than 4,000 likes."I heard it perfectly clearly at the very first instance, how comes the driver didn't?" Asked another netizen. However, others sided with the driver, commenting that repeating the numbers to confirm is pretty standard."It's very normal, every time I hail a car the driver would repeat the last four digits of my number for confirmation." Commented a user who received 965 likes. Some netizens suggested that the passenger might have had a bad day, so it is not that big of a deal. However, the driver said that he had reported the passenger to the platform.Source: Kunache, video credit: 鹰现场
